MIDDLESEX COUNTY - Middlesex County Freeholder Director David B. Crabiel announced today that he will seek the Democratic Party’s endorsement to run for another term when the party organization meets in convention on March 5.
Crabiel said he is “aware of rumors” that he might step down at the end of his current term. “However, my health is good, I love the job and I am confident that I can continue to serve our county with energy, fresh ideas and common sense,” he said.
Crabiel has been a County Freeholder for 27 years and entered his 13th year as Director this month.
He identified several important county initiatives that he is committed to seeing successfully concluded. These include full repayment of the $42 million loan from the Sayreville Economic Redevelopment Agency and the construction of the new 180 bed nursing home facility in Old Bridge. Crabiel also remains committed to reducing the cost of county government by continuing to control spending, particularly during these difficult economic times.
He said the county will miss his colleague and long-time running mate, Freeholder Camille Fernicola, who will retire at the end of this year. She announced earlier this week that she will not seek re-election.
“Camille has been a great contributor to the progress our county has made during her 11-plus years of service,” Crabiel said. “Fortunately, we have many talented citizens who can step forward as potential candidates to take her place.”
Last month, Crabiel stepped down as chairman of the Democratic Party in his hometown of Milltown.
